Advanced Scrum Master (ASM)

Take the next step in your ed­u­ca­tion and ca­reer with the Ad­vanced Scrum Mas­ter cer­ti­fi­ca­tion path! As a Scrum Mas­ter, you will use ag­ile prac­tices and tac­ti­cal skills to help ag­ile teams add val­ue on a dai­ly ba­sis. As an Ad­vanced Scrum Mas­ter, you will fur­ther en­hance team sup­port by us­ing ad­vanced strate­gies, prac­tices, and ag­ile method­olo­gies that dri­ve re­sults and help the Ag­ile Re­lease Train (ART) and the or­ga­ni­za­tion succeed.

Com­plete this mod­u­lar and in­te­grat­ed learn­ing path to earn a re­new­able Ad­vanced Scrum Mas­ter cer­ti­fi­ca­tion. You’ll learn how to ad­dress con­flict, op­ti­mize work­flow, and build a high-per­form­ing team. At­tend short, fo­cused, in­struc­tor-led ses­sions that im­prove your coach­ing and fa­cil­i­ta­tion skills. Use SAFe Skills at your own pace and ben­e­fit from the Learn­ing Lab for peer-to-peer sup­port that pro­motes a “learn and ap­ply” cy­cle to sup­port con­tin­u­ous improvement.

ASM Learning goals

Af­ter this course, you should be able to:
  • Ap­ply ad­vanced fa­cil­i­ta­tion skills and coach­ing tech­niques to ef­fec­tive­ly and re­peat­ed­ly man­age con­flict and fa­cil­i­tate shared de­ci­sion making.
  • Use SAFe’s eight flow ac­cel­er­a­tors, in­clud­ing mea­sur­ing, op­ti­miz­ing, ac­cel­er­at­ing team and ART flow, and fa­cil­i­tate over­com­ing blockages.
  • Im­ple­ment fun­da­men­tal prac­tices de­signed to pro­mote self-di­rec­tion, or­ga­ni­za­tion, and col­lab­o­ra­tion when lead­ing high-per­form­ing teams.
  • Iden­ti­fy the path to ap­ply­ing what you have learned through case study-based real-world sce­nar­ios and prac­ti­cal application.

Dur­ing the Ad­vanced Scrum Mas­ter (ASM) cer­ti­fi­ca­tion paths, par­tic­i­pants com­plete the fol­low­ing mod­ules, in­clud­ing the Learn­ing Lab.

ASM cer­ti­fi­ca­tion path

  • A. Ad­vanced Fa­cil­i­ta­tor course (6 h)
    1. Con­flict and Collaboration
    Is a fa­cil­i­tat­ed half-day ses­sion fo­cus­ing on tech­niques to help lead­ers man­age con­flicts that arise dur­ing col­lab­o­ra­tive de­ci­sion-mak­ing processes.
  • B. 3 SAFe® Skills (3 h)
    1. Ac­cel­er­at­ing Team Flow
    2. Mea­sur­ing ART
    3. Team Flow and Cul­ti­vat­ing high per­form­ing Teams
    In­cludes three one-hour self-paced e‑learning SAFe® Skill ses­sions with the goal of learn­ing flow met­rics, iden­ti­fy­ing and ap­ply­ing flow ac­cel­er­a­tors to en­able high-per­form­ing teams.
  • C. Learn­ing Lab (4 h)
    Is a half-day, small-group ses­sion where learn­ers com­plete case study-based sce­nar­ios to re­in­force what they have learned through real-world ap­pli­ca­tion. In ad­di­tion, the lab also serves as an as­sess­ment of the learn­er to pass the exam and re­ceive the certificate.

Prerequisites

All are wel­come to at­tend the course, but one or more of the fol­low­ing cer­ti­fi­ca­tions is high­ly rec­om­mend­ed if you plan to take the SAFe® Ad­vanced Scrum Mas­ter (ASM) cer­ti­fi­ca­tion exam:

SAFe Certification

The cer­ti­fi­ca­tion exam is of­fered by Scaled Ag­ile Inc. and is held on­line in Eng­lish. Par­tic­i­pants who com­plete the full learn­ing path and pass the Ad­vanced Scrum Mas­ter (ASM) cer­ti­fi­ca­tion will receive:
